So, we haven’t had a working washing machine since we moved in. It has been something like 2 months. It is still not working as I write and there is no telling when the repairman is going to return even though he said it would be yesterday. But I thought I would describe how our landlady, named “Grasping, Clutching, Covetous Old Sinner” (GCCOS for short), is responding to this. Of course, we didn’t break it. It would have been impossible for us to do so, because the main problem is a loose computer board that has corroded wires. But the shrew landlady says that the lease indicates that we have to pay for anything that gets broken if it is our fault. Antonina (speaking to her in Russian) has told her ad nauseum that we did not break it, and thus she should pay, but she point blank refuses to do so. She is charging us an outrageous $700.00 a month for renting a 1 bedroom flat. It is extortion here and we know it. My students were appalled by the rate we were being charged and said we could have a flat for 1/10 the cost. So, the shrew doesn’t care that it is highway robbery on the rent and she completely unsusceptible to logic, so we may have to end up either paying about $150.00 for the repairs, if they can repair it, or $300.00 for a new washing machine. You know, if she were cool about this, and if she needed the cash, I wouldn’t mind so much. But since she is a “wrenching, grasping, covetous, old” wench I just want to get even with her. Pat and I figure that we will do that by leaving nothing behind. We’ll give away the vacuum and the pans, dishes, glassware, blankets, sheets, pillows, cleaning supplies, everything we bought and would have happily left behind to a nice landlady. It’s really funny how some people are so greedy that they do themselves more harm in the long run than if they were generous. If this problem were happening in the
I had better stop writing tonight. All I’m doing is teeing off. (smiley face) I’m actually not in a bad mood. I had a nice cocktail at Pushka with Pat earlier. Maybe vodka makes me fighting mad?
